This workshop will discuss the advantages of African American males enrolled into rigorous courses, such as Advanced Placement (AP). Research has demonstrated that these students are more likely to do well and graduate high school. Additionally, AP students increase their opportunities to earn college scholarships and graduate college in four years. Workshop participants will acquire knowledge that will encourage African American males to accept the challenge of academic rigor, which can help to minimize the academic achievement gap.
Centennial College’s post-secondary intensive English language program helps students obtain language eligibility required for being able to apply for college or university programs in Canada. It emphasizes on building effective academic communication skills – English speaking, listening, reading and writing.

2009‐10 ONE‐YEAR CONTRACT FACULTY POSITIONS
Tallahassee Community College announces openings for the following one‐year faculty positions for
2009‐2010. Tallahassee Community College is a dynamic and growing comprehensive community
college located in Tallahassee, Florida. The College’s 2008 fall enrollment of more than 14,000 students
includes 40% minority students. The College enjoys a strong reputation for teaching excellence and for
producing successful graduates. Tallahassee is also home to two state universities, Florida State
University and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. TCC partners with both universities and
with a number of private higher education institutions to afford greater opportunities for all students.
TCC also partners with area businesses and organizations to meet local workforce needs.
In addition to the minimum qualifications listed for each position, all prospective faculty are expected
to have a demonstrated commitment to student retention and success, to challenging and cultivating
student achievement beyond the classroom, to supporting a diverse population of learners, to working
in a participatory and collegial setting, to supporting continuous improvement of curricula and services,
to using technology and other innovative approaches to enhance the teaching/learning process, and to
participating in professional growth activities. Faculty responsibilities include instruction, curriculum
development, academic advising, support of college policies and procedures, and participation in
department and college activities and committees. Salary range for a two‐semester faculty contract is
$38,405 to $49,393 depending on degree held and experience.
Note: The following faculty vacancies are for one‐year contract. Additional commitments
are not guaranteed and are dependent upon budget, as well as performance.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT PROGRAMS DIVISION
College Success Assistant Professor
Requires a minimum of a master’s degree and demonstrated competencies in the teaching field.
Primary teaching responsibility is in the area of college success and includes study skills, life
management, career preparation, and interpretation of related self‐assessment instruments.
College Preparatory English Assistant Professor
Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English, English education, language arts, Teaching
English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or a related field, and demonstrated competencies in
the teaching field. Primary teaching responsibility is with entry‐level students and includes grammar
and composition. Other teaching assignments may include English for non‐native speakers.
COMMUNICATIONS AND HUMANITIES DIVISION
English Assistant Professor (2 Vacancies)
Requires a minimum of a master’s degree with a major in composition, English, literature, rhetoric, or
creative writing or master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in composition, English,
literature, rhetoric, or creative writing or a combination of a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours
in any of these areas. Primary teaching area is college composition. Other assignments are possible in
literature.

HEALTH CARE PROGRAMS DIVISION
Dental Hygiene Assistant Professor
Requires a minimum of an associate’s degree in dental hygiene plus a bachelor’s degree in
related field. Preferences will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.
Nursing Assistant Professor
Position requires a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing (or a BSN with significant progress
toward completion of the MSN). Applicants must have an active and clear RN license to practice
in Florida or eligibility for Florida licensure. Primary teaching in the Evening‐Weekend Program,
with possible assignment in the Day program, in the areas of Fundamentals, Adult Health,
Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Maternal‐Infant, and/or Pharmacology.
Respiratory Care Assistant Professor
Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in respiratory care. Faculty in this position should
hold or be eligible to obtain an unencumbered Florida Respiratory therapist license and have a
current BLS certification.
SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS DIVISION
Mathematics Assistant Professor (2 Vacancies)
Requires a master’s degree in mathematics, or a master’s degree in a closely related field with
18 graduate semester hours in mathematics. Faculty in this position should be able to teach a
broad spectrum of freshman and sophomore mathematics classes ranging from Intermediate
Algebra to Calculus III.
